You've probably heard that the best way to start off a speech is with a joke. Actually, not. But telling jokes during a speech is one of the least effective ways to be funny. There are better ways to get your audience laughing. A humorous quote, story, or well-timed one liner certainly makes a speech more entertaining--and therefore more effective. And if the audience is laughing every once in a while, they're a lot more likely to keep paying attention instead of daydreaming. But many public speakers with limited experience tend to tell jokes just to get a laugh, and their jokes are often not relevant to their speech topic. This approach really doesn't perform a service for their listeners. There are better ways to add humor to your presentation. 1) Create a fun atmosphere I was a TV sportscaster for most of my adult life, so I often run some video blooper clips of myself and other news anchors. It let's the audience know that I don't take myself too seriously. Which also relates to me to Tip #2. 2) Use self-deprecating humor The late president Gerald Ford was often skewered by comedians about his alleged clumsiness. He soon joined in the fun by developing an arsenal one his own one-liners. Ford once brought the house down at a White House Press Correspondents Dinner. Fans have not always realized how much of a contribution he makes until this season, This season he has really been breathtaking at times. Fantastic attacking ability has recently been recognized while he still does his main priority of breaking up play before it reaches the back four extremely effectively as he has done throughout his career. This is a short video showing in my opinion his top 15 assists since joining the club back in 2006. He began at Ch. 7 in 1967 as the weekend nightly newscast anchor. A year later he became host and producer of Like It Is, which quickly became an important outlet for area viewers to get information on topics important to the African-American community. The show remained Noble's only focus since 1986. And although Noble has shows and interviews on hard news topics like the civil rights movement (in all its forms), integration, education (and the lack thereof), economics, Black nationalism, African/African-American history, gentrification and so much more, he's also done seminal interviews with celebrities like Lena Horne, Bob Marley, Danny Glover, Abbey Lincoln and with repeated newsmakers and notables like Minister Louis Farrakhan, Drs. Yosef Ben-Jochannan and John Henrik Clarke (who seemed to be two of his favorite guests), Dr. Leonard Jeffries, Kwame Toure (Stokely Carmichael) and other members/former members of the Black Panthers, Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, Regent Adelaide Sandford -- the list goes on and on. Documentaries on Black life and notables were also created by Noble under the Like It Is banner. A hard-hitting doc on how drugs affect the community first comes to mind, as well as historical ones on WEB Du Bois, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., Fannie Lou Hamer, Jack Johnson, Charlie Parker, Jazz music on a whole, and my favorite one -- Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Most of these were made int he ...

The chairman of the Indiana Republican State Committee is Eric Holcomb, a former aide of Indiana's sitting Governor Mitch Daniels. In the election of 1860, Abraham Lincoln won all of Indiana's thirteen electoral votes with 51. 09 of the popular vote. When the American Civil War broke out, Indiana had a strong, pro-South Democratic Party in the Indiana General Assembly that, for the most part, claimed to be pro-Union but anti-abolition. Governor Oliver P. Morton(elected 1861), had a close relationship with President Lincoln, who called him the 'shrewdest person I know.' At the 1862 Loyal War Governors Conference in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Morton put his full support behind Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. - Subscribe for Breaking News. Wright believed in designing structures which were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was best exemplified by his design for Fallingwater (1935), which has been called 'the best all-time work of American architecture'. Wright was a leader of the Prairie School movement of architecture and developed the concept of the Usonian home, his unique vision for urban planning in the United States. His work includes original and innovative examples of many different building types, including offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels, and museums. Wright also designed many of the interior elements of his buildings, such as the furniture and stained glass. Wright authored 20 books and many articles and was a popular lecturer in the United States and in Europe. His colorful personal life often made headlines, most notably for the 1914 fire and murders at his Taliesin studio. Already well known during his lifetime, Wright was recognized in 1991 by the American Institute of Architects as 'the greatest American architect of all time.' - Subscribe for Breaking News.
